With her passion for bringing communities together and quest for more equitable societies, Aki joined PFS as a Grants Manager in 2021. Inspired by the power of philanthropy to support healing solutions for societal ills, she is thrilled to meet people from various backgrounds, working towards positive change.
Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Aki holds a BA degree in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a MA degree in nonprofit administration from the University of San Francisco. Before joining PFS, Aki worked as a project coordinator at USF Gellert Family Business Center and an executive director at Grace Notes Community Music School. As an accomplished pianist and teacher, she has worked with numerous nonprofit organizations, schools, musical theaters, and churches. Her previous employment includes Hamlin School, Sacred Heart Preparatory High School, SF Waldorf School, St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, and more. She has toured the US and internationally. Highlights include performing at the Sydney Opera House, Grace Cathedral, Norte-Dame Basilica of Montreal, and Disneyland.
When not working, she is busy playing accordion in a gypsy jazz band, practicing pipe organ, and listening to true-crime podcasts. She lives in San Francisco with her daughter, husband, and two pets, dog and rabbit.
