The Giving Code: Silicon Valley Nonprofits & Philanthropy
An interesting new report called The Giving Code: Silicon Valley Nonprofits and Philanthropy, written by Alexa Cortés Culwell and Heather McLeod Grant of Open Impact, was recently published that explores philanthropy in Silicon Valley. The report explores some of the reasons that Silicon Valley nonprofits struggle to meet demand in one of the wealthiest regions in the world and why more philanthropists aren’t directing dollars toward local organizations and issues. Funded by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and supported by 13 partners and 19 advisors, the report reflects a year of research and analysis, and conversations with more than 300 community stakeholders—from high net worth individuals and their advisors, to leaders of community-based organizations. It also includes recommendations for how community-based organizations and philanthropy can work together in service of the community.
